Civilian Identity
Shayera Hol
Alias
Hawkgirl
Gender
Female
Age
She appears to be in her late twenties in human terms, but she's actually closer to 90
Occupation
Full Time Superhero
Appearance
The most unusual feature of this woman, at least to human eyes, is probably her large wings covered in pale brown feathers. Her wingspan is about fifteen feet, though when folded they reach from the top of her head to the ground. Other than that feature she closely resembles a human. She stands at about five and a half feet tall and weighs about 120 pounds. She has red hair and green eyes. As it's difficult for her to blend in with humans, she's usually in costume: a pale yellow tank top that doesn't interfere with her wings, black belt, red shorts, dark green leggings, and red boots. And, of course, her trademark helmet. But she's also able to wear more casual human clothing, so long as it accommodates her wings.
Personality
Her strongest and most obvious personality trait, especially when she's working, is her aggressive temperament and short fuse. She has a difficult time being patient and is fierce and fearless in a fight. Her courage borders and sometimes even crosses into recklessness, even though she usually makes it out okay in the end. Her fierceness in a fight is only matched by how fiercely loyal she is to her duty and the cause she fights for.
When even she doesn't feel that aggression is called for, she tends to have a naturally serious demeanor. When others are sitting around relaxing she's often working on something on the computer. But beneath the fierce surface, she has a very good heart that's more sentimental and sensitive that it appears. She bonds easily with other people or creatures that are different.
Abilities:
Equipment:
She has an electrified mace made of Nth metal that's able to disrupt magical energies, deliver blows strong enough to harm even Superman when combined with her strength, and can break through nearly anything. She's able to both wield it and throw it with great skill.
Weaknesses:
It's rare for her to decide that charging in with mace in hand is not the best option, and that's her greatest weakness. Not that she isn't able to think more tactically, it's just that she believes that striking first and decisively is generally the best tactic. But this leaves her very vulnerable to getting into trouble with enemies who are good at planning, are prepared for her attack, and/or use more subtle tactics. And often she's becomes so impassioned and focused at the enemy in front of her that she fails to notice the one sneaking up behind her.
She has a bad case of claustrophobia, as tight spaces make it difficult or impossible for her to fly or use her wings.
Background:
On the planet of Thanagar, Shayera Hol was a lieutenant in the military with specialized skills in espionage. Because of her ferocity and well developed skills in combat she was well-known by other Thanagarians, and even served as an instructor. She was engaged to Hro Talak, a very powerful and famous commander of the Thanagarian military.
Hro Talak had such faith in her skills and loyalty that he sent her to Earth on a five year covert mission to determine the weaknesses in the defenses of the humans living there. She was told that the purpose of this was so that the Thanagarians would know how best to reinforce the Earth in the event that they were attacked by their hated enemies, the Gordanians. What she doesn't know is that Hro Talak's real plan is to use the information that she's gathering in order to make it easy to destroy the Earth so that they can build a bypass through space that will allow the Thanagarians to reach the Gordanian homeworld.
Her cover story for this mission is that, rather than being in the military, she was actually a peace officer who was transported to Earth by accident while she was tracking some criminals on Thanagar. They were trafficking in forbidden technology, including a dimensional transporter called a Zeta Beam, and was struck by it before she was able to catch them.
Once on Earth, she decided to use her superhuman abilities to establish herself as a hero, figuring that it would be a good way for her to gather intelligence about the Earth's defenses. She found the people of Earth to be careful and trusting, at least in comparison to what she was used to back on Thanagar, and she soon grew to like them and found that she enjoyed acting as their hero. Between her wings, her scary-looking helmet, and her fierceness in fighting, the citizens of St. Roch started calling her Hawkgirl - a name that she embraced because it put that much distance between her and her past, which is all for the better since she's on Earth as a spy.
Base of Operations:
She considers St. Roch, Louisiana her home, but she frequently flies to wherever the action is.

But beneath the fierce surface, she has a very good heart that's more sentimental and sensitive that it appears. She bonds easily with other people or creatures that are different.
Abilities:
- Flight - Shayera has a pair of wings that allow her to fly. While she can't keep up with, for example, Superman when he's in a hurry, she's an extremely agile and fast flyer. She's able to perform feats such as hovering and lifting more than her own weight while flying - the only notable difference between her ability to fly and that of people with a mental ability to do so is that she can't fly when her wings are entangled.
- Strength - Her strength is comparable only to the absolute strongest of humans, making her much more powerful than one would expect from a woman of her size and strength.
- Endurance - She's able to fight for extended periods of time without weakening or tiring.
- Durability - She's tough enough to shake off all but the strongest of blows from even superpowered aliens, and is much more likely to be stunned by such blows than actually hurt.
- Education - As a member of the Thanagarian military, she was trained in tactics and military science. Her focus on espionage has made her well equipped to understand computers and other technologies, as well as giving her the skills necessary to track people down and not be tracked down herself if she chooses to use them.
- Fighting - She's extremely skilled in martial arts, able to take down all but the most skilled of opponents. She once defeated four members of the Green Lantern corps when they were all fighting unarmed.
- Intelligence - She's a quick learner and has a keen mind, especially when it comes to tactics. She's able to beat Batman at chess.
- Senses - Like all Thanagarians she has keen eyesight comparable to a bird's as well as extra sensitive hearing.

Sitting in front of her borrowed computer, Hawkgirl is quite pleased with herself. She was transported to Earth only a couple of months ago, but she's already been able to do so much. These humans are an odd species, and it was very difficult for her to learn their ways. Most of them were not warriors - not by a long shot, and that took a lot of getting used to. Back at home she'd enjoyed quite the reputation as a fighter, which meant that she always had to keep up the appearance of being ready to attack within two heartbeats. Here she'd had to learn how to quickly reassure people that she wasn't a monster before they hurt themselves running away or mistook her for a monster and attacked.
Fortunately, one of the perks of being a Thanagarian, in addition to not needing to be afraid of anything, is having a quick mind so her studies of these humans and how they organize and react to their world went quickly. After a few false steps, she managed to make friends with a few of the locals around St. Roch, and they proved to be very helpful. Already she can feel the culture shock starting to wear off, which means that it's time for her to move forward with the next phase of her mission.
Now that she has a basic understanding of how this world works, it's time to establish trust so that she can learn its secrets. The tricky part is figuring out how but, given the comparative helplessness of these humans, as she considers the problem the obvious solution is to lend her strength to the weak. That is, after all, what the Thanagarian military plans on doing when her mission is complete, so why not show these humans what her noble species is about by giving herself as an example?
She looks up from the computer at that thought: Seriously, why not? Sure, simply appearing out of nowhere wings, mask, and mace would probably scare people at first, but when they saw her helping those in trouble, they'd learn to trust her very quickly. Shutting down the computer, she picks up her mace, attaches it to her waistband, and jumps out the window. Time to let all of St. Roch know that she exists. And after that, the world. And then she'll be able to obtain the information she was sent to get, just by doing good and busting a few heads.
